Risk Management in the Outdoors

The Australian Adventure Activity Standard (AAAS) and related Good Practice Guides (GPGs) provide a voluntary good-practice framework for safe and responsible planning and delivery of led outdoor adventure activities with dependent participants. This should be used as a guide for all organisations, companies, and individuals that are in the Outdoor Industry.

The formation of the Aust. AAS and GPG’s were supported and funded in 2016 by a meeting of the State and Territory Sport and Recreation Ministers of Australia and concluded in 2019.

These tools were industry-designed, endorsed, and now owned by the industry. The Outdoor Council of Australia takes carriage of these tools for industry use. Outdoors NSW & ACT is a member of the Outdoor Council of Australia.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
These standards and guides remain the only tool that many landowners, land managers, stakeholders, and insurers use when defining expectations from our industry. They are also used in the event of incidents when evaluating the potential cause/effect of actions, potential charges, or recommended approaches to alleviate risk in the future.
