Over the past twelve months the membership of the Outdoor Council of Australia (OCA) has increased by 33% with continual interest by the outdoor industry to build its federal voice for the betterment of policy and leadership. In 2024, the board took a bold move to move to a company limited by guarantee with its AGM held late October 2024.
With this change the OCA board discussed changing the organisations operational model, with the aim of increasing the representative nature of the organisation while also allowing the organisation to be more action orientated.
SO WHAT HAS CHANGED?
The OCA Board is now more leaner, and more narrowly focused on governance and operational matters. The Board consists of 5 members rather than the past 9, though there is scope for the board to appoint up to an additional 4 skills-based positions.
A new ‘Member Forum’ will be established. This member forum will guide the guide the discussion on the needs of the industry, current conditions and advise on operational considerations.
It is anticipated that the new member forum will provide an opportunity for the various sectors of the outdoor industry to discuss and collaborate on priorities for OCA's consideration, while the board operationalises these priorities using the members forum as a sounding board and point of feedback.
This is a very positive step forward for OCA.
