The annual general meeting of Outdoors NSW & ACT for 2023-2024, held on 1 October, marked a transition in leadership. Dr. Phil Hamdorf, who has admirably served as Chair, announced his resignation due to his relocation to Adelaide. The organisation is proud to introduce Mr. Peter Kent, Principal of Birrigai Outdoor School, as the new Chair of the organisation.
During the AGM, members and attendees also extended a warm welcome to Ms. Linda Hall from the National Parks and Wildlife Service NSW, who joined the board in succession to Kyle Finlay, whose term has concluded.
"Dr. Hamdorf's dedication and leadership have been instrumental in guiding Outdoors NSW & ACT through numerous achievements. His presence will be greatly missed," stated Mr. Kent. "I am honoured to step into this role and continue building on the solid foundation laid by my predecessor."
Ms. Hall brings a wealth of experience and expertise from the National Parks and Wildlife Service NSW and the education sector, promising to be a valuable addition to the board. "I am looking forward to contributing to the impactful work carried out by Outdoors NSW & ACT and supporting our mission to promote and enhance outdoor experiences," she commented.
The AGM also provided a comprehensive overview of the annual report, highlighting key accomplishments, challenges, and the overall financial health of the organisation. Attendees were treated to a presentation from Safework NSW on some areas of confusion for amusement device compliance as well as sneak peak of the 2025 - 2028 Outdoors NSW & ACT strategic plan, which sets the foundations for ongoing support for its members.
The strategic plan reflects the organisation's commitment to promoting the benefits of outdoor activities for individuals' physical and mental well-being and will undergo consultation with members before its launch in July 2025.
