Women Across NSW Invited to Take Their First Step Outdoors for Bushwalking NSW’s Women’s Week
Women across New South Wales are invited to lace up their boots and step into nature during Bushwalking NSW’s Women’s Week, running from 2–8 March, with more than 50 entry-level bushwalks taking place across the state.
Delivered by Bushwalking NSW and proudly supported by Women NSW, Bushwalking NSW Women’s Week is designed to create welcoming, supportive opportunities for women who are curious about bushwalking but may not know where to start.
The week-long program offers locally led walks, hosted by bushwalking clubs in communities across metropolitan, regional and rural NSW. Walks are intentionally entry-level, providing a safe and inclusive way for women to try bushwalking, build confidence, and connect with others.
“Through Women’s Week walks, women across the state will gain the confidence to get outdoors locally, practical insight into bushwalking with nearby clubs, and a sense of connection with people in their own community,” said the Jessie Burke, the President of Bushwalking NSW.
“We hope they leave knowing where they can walk next, who they can walk with, and how to stay involved close to home.”
Bushwalking NSW Women’s Week also supports broader wellbeing, social connection and community participation outcomes, while encouraging care and respect for local bushland and natural environments.
Lori Modde, CEO of Outdoors NSW & ACT (ONSWACT), said Bushwalking NSW Women’s Week highlights the powerful role outdoor activities play in women’s health, wellbeing and community connection.
“Accessible outdoor experiences like these entry-level bushwalks are critical in helping women feel confident to get active, connect with others and enjoy the wellbeing benefits of time outdoors,” Ms Modde said.
“Bushwalking NSW Women’s Week creates simple, local pathways for women to participate in outdoor recreation in a way that feels welcoming, safe and sustainable — and that’s exactly how lifelong engagement begins.”
Ms Burke reiterated that participants will have the opportunity to experience their local bush and wild places in a supported, welcoming setting.
“We hope they leave with greater confidence to explore these environments safely, a stronger connection to the places around them, and clear pathways to keep walking and caring for the bush with their local club.”
Women of all ages and experience levels are encouraged to participate. No prior bushwalking experience is required.
